Construction of the Woolworth Building, a U.S. National Historic Landmark, began in November, 1910, after the demolition of former buildings on the site. The Woolworth was completed in 1913, being the tallest building in the world until 1930, when it was surpassed by 40 Wall Street.
Other skyscrapers are seen in the background, Park Row Building, on the left, the Singer Tower, the St, Paul Building and the The City Investment Building, at 165 Broadway. The Post Office building was erected between 1869 and 1880 (demolished in 1939). Below, enlargement of buildings between Park Place and Murray Street.
