Basildon Room, Waldorf-Astoria New York - 1933
The Basildon Room in the Waldorf Astoria New York on Park Avenue, 1933. It is so called because it embodies features of rare historical and artistic interest reconstructed from a large 18th century living room taken from Basildon Park, Berkshire, England. Included are modeled and painted cornices, fine paneling, a marble mantel, attributed to John Flaxman, the sculptor, and oil paintings attributed to Angelica Kauffman.
Above, photographic print from the Library of Congress, copyright 1933 (expired). A color version from a vintage postcard (H.W-A. Corp.) is on the right.
