Tammany Hall, Nassau Street - circa 1830s, before Printing House Square

That was the end of Nassau Street, in the 1830s, before the area was known as Printing House Square. The area became a lot different in the late 19th century, with the biggest skyscrapers of New York. Source: Library of Congress.

The Tammany Hall was built in 1812 and the building housed The Sun in 1867. Tammany Society was a fraternal club organized in 1772 around the symbolic figure of Tamanend (c. 1625-c. 1701), a Native American leader of the Lenape people.
