Arthouse Hotel
The Arthouse Hotel New York City is a 300-room boutique hotel located at 2178 Broadway on the southeast corner of West 77th Street, on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The hotel is housed in a building completed in 1919 as a 12-story apartment building. The historic Hotel Belleclaire, completed in 1903, is across Broadway, on the southwest corner of 77th St.
The apartment building was originally designed by Janes & Leo, a New York-based architectural firm of Elisha Harris Janes and Richard Leopold Leo. It is clad in light-brown brick and limestone, with a chamfered northwest corner and a prominent cornice.
In 1990, it was converted into a full-service hotel and opened
in January, 1991, as the Broadway American Hotel. It was sold again in 1999 to
the Citylife Hotel Group and fully renovated into the On The Avenue Hotel. At
this time the hotel gained a 4-story addition built on top, designed by the firm
David Kenneth Specter and Associates.
The hotel changed hands in 2013. It was renovated and became the NYLO, the first
New York link in a chain of Texas boutique hotels. In January of 2019, the hotel
was rebranded as the Arthouse Hotel.
Tenants in the building include the Arthouse Bar, the RedFarm, a Chinese restaurant, and the Serafina, serving Northern Italian cuisine.
