Illustration shows buildings on the west side of Broadway, between Park Place and Warren Street, and Hudson River in the distance. The Post Office building (to the left) was completed in 1880 on City Hall Park.

The Devlin & Company Clothing (former Devlin, Hudson & Co.) at 258-260 Broadway, corner of Warren Street, was then one of the largest stocks of ready-made clothing in the United States. It occupied this building since 1854. There was also another store on Broadway and Grand Street. In the 1890s, the building was home of the Rogers, Peet & Co. Men's Outfitters. This was the site of the old Mason's Arms Tavern of Samuel Fraunces in the 18th century.
