Hamburg-American Building, 45 Broadway - 1909
Photo shows the Hamburg-American Building at 45 Broadway, formerly Aldrich Court Building, as the main subject. It was designed by Youngs & Cable, completed in 1887 and demolished in 1982. Photo by Irving Underhill, about 1909, from the Museum of the City of New York.
In 1917, 45 Broadway was seized by the United States Government. In the 1920s and later in housed federal agencies.
The old Columbia Building, on the northwest corner of Morris St. (left) is seen with its original architecture. It was designed by Youngs & Cable, the same firm that designed Aldrich Court. Both buildings were constructed by Spencer Aldrich. Columbia Building was expanded in 1909.
