Gilsey House and Asphalt Pavement on Broadway - 1900
The Gilsey House and asphalt pavement being laid down on Broadway. The 29th Street is on the right. In May of 1900, Edward O. Roessle took control of Gilsey House as the new proprietor. The Broadway section, between 14th St. and 42 Str., received asphalt pavement from September 30 to about the end of the year. The contractor was the Mack Paving Company (originally undated photograph from George P. Hall & Son photograph collection / New-York Historical Society).
