Gilsey House on Broadway and 29th Street - 19th Century
The Gilsey House, located on the corner of Broadway and West 29th Street, was built between 1869 and 1871. The Marble Collegiate Church is seen in the distance, on the corner of 29th Street and Fifth Avenue. This French Second Empire cast-iron building was considered one of New York's most sumptuous hotels in the 1870s. The house was very attractive externally with its picturesque façade, broken with fine Corinthian columns and balconies; and its high Mansard roof, with a clock- tower at the corner. This building still stands.
