Since about 1882, James H. Breslin & Bro. were the proprietors of the Gilsey House. James H. Breslin bought the Sturtevant House across the street at No. 1186 Broadway, in 1903. The 12-story high Hotel Breslin, constructed on the west side of Broadway, opened in November, 1904. Since 2008 it is part of the Ace Hotel Group.
