West 41st Street, St. Cloud Hotel Annex - 1920
View of buildings on the north side of West 41st Street from near Broadway to near 6th Avenue. Photo by Brown Brothers (New York, N.Y.). Source: Photographic views of New York City, from the collections of the New York Public Library. Photo was taken from the old Hotel Continental, about 1920, when the 10-story wing of the Bush Tower was under construction. It was completed in the early 1921.
The St. Cloud Hotel Annex at 143 West 41st Street (adjoining Hotel Calvert) was completed in 1894 as part of the old St. Cloud Hotel, which opened in 1868 on the southeast corner of Broadway and 42nd Street, on the current site of Knickerbocker Hotel.
The Hotel Calvert, former Stuart House, is on the left, closed in 1921 and the building was demolished about 1951. The buildings on the right still stands today. The five-story building at 141 West 41st Street was constructed in 1900 and it had its façade renovated before the 1929 (see photo on the right).
