A Western Union office is in the hotel's ground floor. The company was then constructing its Art Deco skyscraper at 60 Hudson Street.
The 9-story Hotel Vendome opened in December 1882. To the right, the 25-story 1440 Broadway, completed in 1925 and still standing today. The hotel and the three-story building adjoining the hotel on the right were demolished demolished in the early 1930 to make way for the 42-story Continental Building.
