The original building was a family residence erected on the corner of Dock Street (now Pearl Street) and Broad Street. Construction started in 1719. It was established as a tavern, in 1762, by Samuel Fraunces. Here occurred the immortal farewell of Washington to his officers, in 1783.
Today, Fraunces Tavern is a national historic landmark, museum, in New York City, situated at 54 Pearl Street at the corner of Broad Street. The Long Room was restored in 1906/1907 and redesigned in the 1960s.
