The first New York YMCA Building, at 52 East 23rd Street and 4th Avenue (now Park Avenue South), was dedicated on December 2, 1869 and demolished in 1903. This five-story building was designed in Renaissance style by renowned architect James Renwick Jr. (1818-1895), the same architect who designed the Grace Church and St. Patrick's Cathedral.

This photo is a fragment a bigger photograph with main subject the Fourth Avenue Presbyterian Church. It was taken between 1882 and 1901, when the National Academy building (part seen on the right) was demolished. Source: Robert L. Bracklow photograph collection, New-York Historical Society.
