Fifth Avenue Hotel and Broadway - about the late 1880s

 

Original title: 5th Ave. Hotel. The old Fifth Avenue Hotel opened in 1859. Photograph by Langill, showing 5th Avenue, Worth Square, Broadway, between 23rd and 27th streets, including Albemarle Hotel, located on Madison Square West (1101-1109 Broadway), on the northwest corner of West 24th Street, Hoffman House, St. James Hotel (at 26th St.) and Worth Monument. Overhead wires were buried after the Great Blizzard of 1888. Photo taken from near the southeast corner of Broadway and 23rd Street, looking up Broadway. Madison Square is to the right. On the left, the old building replaced by the Flatiron building, completed in 1902.
