West 24th Street and Broadway, Hoffman House and Albemarle - 1908

This photo was taken in 1908, after demolition of the old Fifth Avenue Hotel. The Fifth Avenue Building (200 Fifth Avenue) was completed on the site the following year. Demolition allowed to clearly shows buildings on the north site of West 24th Street, including the New Hoffman House, which formed an "L" adjoining the Albemarle, with façades on Broadway and W 24th St., completed in 1907. Madison Square

 

Both, the Hoffman House and the Albemarle Hotel were demolished in 1915. The Worth Monument, dedicated in 1857, is shown on the right. The old Worth House (Berlitz School), former headquarters on the New York Club and the Madison Square Bank, is behind it.
