Lobby of the Madison Square Hotel - 1940s
Lobby of the Madison Square Hotel at 37 Madison Avenue. Vintage postcard Lumitone Photoprint, postmark 1946. "The Madison Square" opened in 1904 with about 340 rooms. It also had a wing on East 26th Street. It operated both as a hotel and as an apartment house and it was advertised for a public that demanded comfort without extravagance. The structure was demolished about the late 1969 and replaced by the 41 Madison Avenue, a 42-story tower completed in 1974.
