Photograph was taken between 1859, when the Fifth Avenue Hotel, on the left, opened and 1894, when another photo showed that utility poles (seen in this photo) had already been removed. About 1885, according to New York Public Library. Madison Square Park is on the right. The old Worth House, later Madison Square Bank Building, at 1 West 25th Street (202 Fifth Avenue) is behind Worth Monument erected in 1857. The Marble Collegiate Church can be seen in the distance on 5th Avenue at 29th St. The spire of Brick Church is further away at 37th Street.
