The Bryant Park was created in 1847 as Reservoir Square. In 1884, it was renamed Bryant Park after the poet and New York Evening Post editor William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878).
The New York Public Library building, facing 5th Avenue, opened on May 23, 1911.
