Park Avenue at East 57th Street - 1930s

View of Park Avenue, looking north from East 57th Street. Vintage postcard about the 1930s. Original title: Park Avenue, Wealthiest and Most Fashionable Street in New York.

A small piece of the Ritz Tower, completed in 1927, is seen on the extreme right. The adjoining building, on the southeast corner of East 58th Street was erected in 1908 and transformed into a 14th-story 62 residential units in 1959. On the northeast corner stands the 485 Park Avenue, a 14 floor building erected in 1922.

Park Avenue connects Union Square, at 17th Street, in Manhattan, to Fordham, in Bronx. On December 1, 1924, the Park Avenue's southern terminus moved from 34th Street to 32nd Street. In the second half of 19th century Park Avenue received its name. From 17th Street to 32nd Street, it is known as Park Avenue South, since 1959.
