This section of Park Row was officially named Chatham Street, from 1774 to 1886. It is now part of the Civic Center, which includes the buildings in the background: the Municipal Building, on the left, and the Federal Courthouse building (now Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse), on the right, completed in 1936 at 40 Centre Street, facing Foley Square. The Municipal Building was constructed between 1909 and 1917, facing the City Hall Park, but it began to be occupied in 1913. This section of Park Row has completely changed.
