Lunt-Fontanne Theatre

Above, mural by Cosmo de Salvo (1893–1991) in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, a Broadway theater, showing the auditorium of the Park Theatre in 1822. This mural was painted before the theatre’s reopening in 1958. It is based on the oil painting by John Searle (1783-1834), below, depicting the interior of the Park Theatre on November 7, 1822, during the performance of the farce of "Monsieur Tonson" by William Moncrieff. Actors Charles Matthews and Miss Ellen A. Johnson are on the stage. Music was conducted by English George Gillingham (before 1768 - 1827). Source: Collection of the New-York Historical Society.

The original New-York Theatre, located at 21–25 Park Row, New York City, opened in 1798 and it was later known as Park Theatre. It was destroyed by fire in 1820. The second Park Theatre, opened in 1821, was renovated by 1830 and was destroyed by fire in 1848.
