This is an enlarged fragment of the photo on the right by Berenice Abbott, dated July 23, 1936. The Benjamin Franklin Monument, dedicated in 1872, is in the center of the Printing House Square, intersection of Nassau Street, Park Row (foreground) and Spruce Street.
The old New York Times building, at 41 Park Row, is on the right. The Tribune Building, demolished in 1966, is behind the Franklin monument and housed stores, the Monte Carlo Beauty Shops and Beauty Saloon, the City Hall Bar & Restaurant (corner of Spruce Street) in the ground floor.
