Pabst Hotel before Demolishing - about 1902
Title: The Pabst Hotel, W. 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway, New York City. The photo was taken from Broadway, looking north. Construction of the Pabst Hotel began in October 1898 and the hotel opened on November 11, 1899. It was sold to the New York Times about mid 1902. We can see by the papers on the windows that the building was being prepared to be demolished. The site was cleared in the early 1903 to make way for Times Building. The four-story office building that adjoined Pabst Hotel had already been demolished when this photo was taken. The works on the New York Subway was underway. Source: Robert L. The old nine-story Pabst Hotel occupied the north side of 42nd Street, between Broadway and 7th Avenue (1469 Broadway / 603 Seventh Avenue / 153 42nd St.), on part of the site where the Times Building was erected in 1904.
The old Hotel Metropole is to the left. The building was demolished by 1909.
