Times Square in 1968
This is Times Square, looking south from the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. Date based on events advertised in billboards and buildings. Source: Vintage postcard by Alfred Mainzer, Inc. The Times Building was erected in 1904 and in 1963-1964, it changing its external design. The old Hotel Astor was demolished in 1967 to make way for the Minskoff Building (not in this photo). The film Salt and Pepper, with Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, is showing at the Victoria. It was released in June 1968. The film The Big Gundown, with Lee Van Cleef is showing in the Astor, on the right. It was originally released in 1967, in Italy. Star! with Julie Andrews is advertised on the right, this musical film was released in October 1968.
