Buildings on Wall Street - 1890
Original title: New Buildings, Wall Street. Engraving published in the New York Illustrated, D. Appleton and Company, 1890.
Illustration represents new buildings erected at the time this magazine was published (1890). The building on the left adjoins the old Assay Office Building, at 32 Wall Street, built in 1824 (partially seen at the extreme left). Today, this site is occupied by the skyscraper 40 Wall Street, former Bank of Manhattan Trust Building and Manhattan Company Building, completed in 1930.
The Bank of America, incorporated in 1812, is at 44 Wall Street, northwest corner of William Street, on the right. This building was erected in 1888-1889 and replaced a former neoclassical building on the site. It was demolished after 1921.
