The Majestic Theatre opened opened on March 28, 1927, with the musical Rufus LeMaire's Affairs. It was designed by Herbert J. Krapp in a Spanish style and built for the Chanin brothers, real-estate magnates, intended as a venue for major musical theater productions because of its large size. It has 1,681 seats across two levels. Both the façade and interior were designated New York City landmarks in 1987. Today, the theater is operated by the Shubert Organization since 1930.
