Map State of Maranhão

The State of Maranhão is located in the northeast region of Brazil, Atlantic coast. The capital is São Luís, founded in the 17th century. Its land has Amazonian forests in its northern areas and long stretches of beaches along the Parnaíba River and the Atlantic coastline. It is bordered by the states of Piauí, Tocantins and Pará.
