The state of Piauí lies in the northeast region of Brazil. It has a short coastline in the Atlantic Ocean and is mostly situated in the Parnaíba River Basin. Piauí is bordered by the states of Maranhão, Ceará, Pernambuco, Tocantins and Bahia. The capital is Teresina, located inland.
