American Exchange National Bank Building, Broadway and Cedar Street - 1913
The 16-story American Exchange National Bank building was under construction in May 1900 and it was completed in 1901, on the northeast corner of Broadway and Cedar Street. Clinton & Russell, architect. The building was demolished about 1964. Today, the site is occupied by the 52-story office building 140 Broadway, completed in 1968. The empty site of the Old Equitable Building, destroyed in 1912, on the right, allowed this amazing view of buildings in Cedar Street.
On Cedar Street, on the right, we can see the old New York Clearing House, demolished about 1963, and the National Bank of Commerce building, completed in 1896, corner of Nassau Street. The neoclassic building on Broadway, corner of Liberty Street was constructed for the Guaranty Trust Company of New York, replacing the Old Mutual Life Building, in 1912. The old five-story building, at 130 Broadway, was also demolished and part of the lot was used for an extension of the American Exchange National Bank building (see the original building).
We can see some snow around the area. Photograph by Irving Underhill, copyrighted 1913, from Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.
