Reproduction of the original sepia drawing on paper by Charles Burton is on the right. Owner: New-York Historical Society. This reproduction was published by Stokes (Iconography of Manhattan Island...1918). According to Stokes, the date depicted is 1830. This and other drawings by Burton were made for George Melksham Bourne, who issued a series of New York views in 1831, the engravings being executed by J. Smillie, Archer, Gimber, Fossette, and others.

This view, looking up old Broadway from about Garden Street (present-day Exchange Place), shows buildings on the west side Broadway. The original Grace Church, is on the left. The second temple of Trinity Church is across Rector Street.
