The spire of Trinity Church is on the right. It was the tallest structure in New York City from 1846, when the temple was completed, until 1888, when it was surpassed by the spires of St. Patrick's Cathedral.
The old Equitable Building , completed in 1870, is on the left, between Cedar and Pine streets. It was a huge granite structure, covering the entire block. It was destroyed by fire in 1912.
