Rossmore Hotel on Broadway - about 1888
Buildings on the west side Broadway, from 42nd Street. The large building is the The 7-story Rossmore Hotel. Undated photograph, unknown photographer. It was probably taken about the late 1887 or early 1888, considering it seems the Broadway Theatre is under construction on the corner of 41st Street (left in the distance) and it opened in March 3, 1888. Most of the overhead wires on Broadway were buried before 1890.
The Times Building was erected in 1904, on the northern side of 42nd Street, between Broadway and 7th Avenue (a bit part on the right). The site is not seen in this image.
The building on the right, on the south side of 42nd Street, became later part of the Metropole Building (see photo on the right).
Photo between 1880 and 1887, when the Metropolitan Concert Hall was on the site of Broadway Theatre, which opened in 1888.
