Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883 and became one of the most photographed bridges in the world. Proposals for a bridge between Brooklyn and Manhattan began in the early 19th century. In February 1867, the New York State Senate passed a bill that allowed the construction of a suspension bridge. The old trolley tracks closed in March 1950 to allow for the widening of the bridge.
