Central Park looking south from the Observatory in an illustration by Hitchcock & Co., claiming copyright on June 15, 1859, the same year the Park first opened for public use. The Bethesda Terrace and the Mall are represented in the center. The Cathedral of Saint Patrick was under construction at the time, the towers were added in 1888.
