City Hall Park and Buildings on Broadway - 1919
Looking south on Broadway, from Chambers Street, New York City. The City Hall is on the left. The old Post Office on the southern end of City Hall Park was demolished in 1839.
Broadway was extended across the Fields, now City Hal Park, in the mid-18th century. It became New York City's most important thoroughfare in the 19th century, where the first skyscrapers were built. The Woolworth Building, completed in 1913, was the highest building in the world for about 17 years. Each building in this area has a story worth telling.
