Park Row and City Hall Park, Historic Buildings - about 1916
Photograph shows historic buildings in the Civic Center, New York City seen from Broadway toward City Hall Park and Park Row. Vintage postcard by L. Jonas & Co. printed in Germany. Photo copyright by Irving Underhill. Photo was created about 1916, when the old Sun Building on the corner of between Frankfort Street, next to the Tribune, was demolished (the site is vacant in this photo). Source: Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.
The City Hall, opened 1812, is in the center and the Municipal Building is behind it. The World Building, next to the Brooklyn Bridge terminal, was once the tallest building in the world, demolished in 1955. The Tribune Building (demolished in 1966) is on the right, facing Printing House Square, at the junction of Nassau and Spruce streets.
The Technical Press (building seen behind the bridge terminal) was one of the largest printing plants in New York until its discontinuance in 1933. The German Herold Building is in front the Technical Press.
