Sub-Treasury, Wall Street - 1908

This building in classical Greek style opened in 1842 as the Custom House. It was built on the site of the old Federal Hall, demolished in 1812. It was occupied by the U.S. Sub-Treasury in 1863. The statue of George Washington, on its stairs, was unveiled in 1883.
