Old City Hotel on Broadway - 1831

 

The old City Hotel opened in 1795 on Lower Broadway, bounded by Cedar, Temple, and Thames streets. It was designed by John McComb Jr. (1763-1853) and was owned by Ezra Weeks. In 1828, John Jacob Astor bought the hotel and then it was operated by Chester Jennings. The hotel closed in 1849.
