Grand Hotel between 1895 and 1900

The Grand Hotel, located on the corner of Broadway and West 31st Street, opened its doors in 1868 (now 31 Street Broadway Hotel) . The Annex, at 34-36 West 31st Street, was erected in 1903 (not seen in this picture). The old Wallack's Theatre (seen on the right) operated under that name from 1882 to about 1888 and from 1895 to 1915, when it was demolished. Asphalt pavement was laid down on Broadway in 1900. A sign in the theater features Otis Skinner who played in Wallack's Theatre after 1895. In 1900, Otis Skinner produced Prince Otto in this theater. Photographer unknown.
