Carriages in Fifth Avenue and Broadway - 1902

Looking up Fifth Avenue and Broadway from from the intersection at 23rd Street. Photograph by William Herman Rau (1855-1920), originally a stereograph card, copyrighted 1903, but the year depicted is 1902. Source: Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.

Photo shows a street scene with pedestrians, carriages, and streetcars. The Worth Monument is in the center and Madison Square is to the right. The entrance to Fifth Avenue Hotel is on the left. The old Worth House (1 West 25th Street or 202 Fifth Avenue building), behind the monument, then an office building, was replaced by a six-story building by 1918, now the Porcelanosa.
