The Albemarle Hotel, on the corner of 24th Street, opened in 1860 and closed by January 1915. Hoffman House, adjoining Albemarle, opened in 1864, originally a seven-story building. It was expanded and renovated in 1895. Its Moorish annex, on the right, corner of 25th Street, was completed in the late 1895 or early 1896.

The old St James Hotel, built in 1857, was demolished in 1896 and replaced by the St. James Building, completed by 1898. The Fifth Avenue Hotel is to the left.
