Seventh Avenue and 41st Street, Times Square - 1935 / 1937
Two views of Seventh Avenue, north from West 41st Street towards Times Square, New York City. Source: Photographic views of New York City, from the collections of the New York Public Library.
The first view (photo on the top), dated July 6, 1935, was taken by P.L. Sperr. It shows the Paramount building, occupying the 43rd to 44th street frontage. Above the same is the Hotel Astor, erected in 1904. The old Rialto Theatre (opened in 1916) is being demolished. It was located at 1481 Broadway, at the northwest corner of Seventh Avenue and 42nd Street.
The second photo, below, is dated June 4, 1937, taken by W.P.A. photo (Five Borougs Project), during the track removal project. Note the bus that replaced the street cars. Part of the Times Building is seen on the right. More: Seventh Avenue at Times Square ►
