Park Row and Park Fountain - 1874

This is a unique photograph, showing the Tribune Building under construction in 1874, on the extreme right. The French's Hotel opened in 1849 on Park Row, corner of Frankfort Street. It was demolished in 1888 to make way for the World Building, completed in 1890. The Sun is on the opposite corner of Frankfort Street, since about 1868, on the site of the old Tammany Hall (photo on the right). The New Yorker Staats-Zeitung building was completed in 1873.
