Park Row and Printing House Square - 1880s

Visual pollution of utility poles and overhead wires was solved after 1888. City Hall Park is to the left. The French's Hotel opened in 1849 on Park Row, corner of Frankfort Street. It was demolished in 1888 to make way for the World Building, completed in 1890. The Sun is on the opposite corner of Frankfort Street, since about 1868, on the site of the old Tammany Hall. The Tribune Building on the left, opened in 1875. It was an early skyscraper in New York City. The Statue of Benjamin Franklin in the Printing House Square was unveiled in 1872.
