Times Building, Park Row - 1859

 

The Crook and Duff's (later, Nash & Crook; Crook, Fox & Nash; Nash & Fuller Restaurant and other names) opened to the public on June 20, 1858 at 40 Park Row by John Harvey Crook and John A. Duff. It occupied half of the basement and ground floor of Times Building.  In the Frank Leslie's engraving (right) there are the "Dining Room's" at 39 Park Row. The Surrogate's Office was also housed in Times Building in 1858.

 

The Times Building was located opposite the City Hall Park, on Park Row, Spruce and Nassau streets. Engraved by Samuel Smith Kilburn (1831-1903), Boston, published in 1870 in the Henry J. Times Building, Park Row - 1859

 

This 5-story Times Building existed from 1858 to 1888, then it was rebuilt to a 13-story early skyscraper. The original 5-story American Tract Society building, completed in 1847, is on the left. The Park Building, later World Building, adjacent to the Times Building, is on the right.
