Trinity Church, Drawing - 1846
This is a drawing on stone of the Trinity Church made by John Forsyth & E.W. Mimee, before January 26, 1846, year of completion of this third temple of Trinity Church. Richard Upjohn (1802–1878) was the architect of this Gothic temple. Original title: Birds-eye view of Trinity Church, New York. Repository: Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C.
The Trinity Church steeple allowed for a panoramic view of Manhattan. Its height of 284 feet made it the tallest structure in New York City until 1888, when it was surpassed by the spires of St. Patrick's Cathedral (329.6 feet). Rector Street is on the left and Trinity Place is behind the Church.
