This is the third temple of Trinity Church, dedicated in 1846. The first temple was dedicated in 1697 and enlarged in 1737. It was destroyed in Great Fire of 1776. The second temple was completed in 1790, being both longer and wider than the first. It was demolished in 1839 due to structural problems. In the same year, the construction of the new temple was initiated in neo-Gothic style. The architect was Richard Upjohn (1802–1878).
The Trinity Martyrs’ Memorial in the Trinity Churchyard is a Gothic structure of brown stone, standing on a granite foundation, about 45 feet high, appropriately inscribed, and crowned with the American eagle. It is a monument erected in the 1850s dedicated to the Independence War prisoners. Frank Wills was the architect.
