The Drexel Building was completed in 1873. It was home of the Drexel, Morgan & Co. After Anthony J. Drexel’s death, the company reorganized in 1894 and became J.P. Morgan & Co. The present neoclassic NYSE building at 18 Broad Street, began to be constructed in September 1901 and was completed in April 1903. The building in the extreme right was replaced by the Wilks Building, erected from 1889 to 1890. The buildings adjacent to the NYSE, on the left and right, were expanded after 1885. The Western Union Building, at 16 Broad Street (left) was bought by the NYSE in 1898.

The utility poles were removed from Wall and Broad streets by 1889. Overhead wires were buried.
