This bronze statue by the sculptor John Quincy Adams Ward, was unveiled in 1883 on the steps of the old Custom House and U.S. Sub-Treasury Building, designated the Federal Hall Memorial National Historic Site, in 1939. This is the site where George Washington was inaugurated as the first President of the U.S.A. in 1789.
