Photo shows the government buildings around Foley Square. The Federal Courthouse building (now Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse) at 40 Centre Street is under construction. It was completed in 1936. The New York County Courthouse (now New York State Supreme Court Building), hexagonal building at 60 Centre Street, was completed in 1927 (enlargement of the courthouses is on the right). The Municipal Building, on the right, opened in 1913 and was completed in 1917.

The N.Y State Office Building was erected from 1928 to 1930. In 1984, it was renamed to honor Louis J. Lefkowitz, New York State’s longest-serving Attorney General. The building was transferred to City management in 2002.

Other government buildings and the City Hall Park, are to the right, outside this photo.
